BCIT recruiting mining students

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) is seeking help from industry in improving enrolment and placement in its mining program.

Despite low enrolment, a recent survey indicates the mining industry wishes the program to survive in order that availability of workers be guaranteed. The BCIT has distributed posters inviting prospective students to consider mining as an opportunity to “explore the world.” Current positions held by BCIT graduates include consulting in Chile, prospecting in the Yukon and working in Vancouver offices. The program is being touted as an opportunity “to take high-tech to the tent, the city, the mountains or the jungle.” Posters can be placed in supermarkets, sports clubs and workplaces. Call John Fairley, Program Head, BCIT Mining Dept. at (604) 432-8323.
