Blind River wins safety award

Without a lost-time accident in three years, Cameco Corp.’s Blind River refinery has just set a company safety record. Its staff was recently given the Mary-Jean Mitchell Green memorial trophy for safety.

Chairman William Gatenby noted that the refinery’s 80 employees had reached this milestone despite changes in production schedules and assignments that are necessitated by the downturn in the uranium conversion market. Refinery manager Manfred Neven attributes the employees’ successful performance to ongoing safety programs and to the 1991 implementation of the Safety Training Observation Program at the refinery.
