A recently completed drill program at the Izok Lake base metal property 360 km north of Yellowknife, N.W.T., has increased reserves and boosted confidence levels.
Partners Metall Mining (TSE) and Minnova (TSE) report recalculated reserves of 13.6 million tonnes grading 14.6% zinc, 1.6% lead, 2.5% copper and 77.7 grams silver per tonne, up from 13.4 million tonnes grading 14.4% zinc, 1.3% lead, 3.2% copper and 74.1 grams silver.
“Overall tonnage increased slightly,” the partners said in a prepared release. “However, confidence levels increased significantly as most of the reserve is now drilled on 30-metre centres and is in the probable category.” An estimated 12.3 million tonnes are now classified as probable. The change in zinc and copper grades is attributed to the increase in reserves in the Northwest zone, a primarily zinc-rich deposit. An additional mineral inventory of about two million tonnes at an average grade of 8% zinc and 2% copper has been outlined in the nearby Inukshuk massive sulphide deposit.
Drilling to test other exploration targets will resume in 1993. Current work involves metallurgical sampling, environmental and engineering studies, transportation studies and evaluation of potential port sites and sea lanes.
