Two agreements have been signed between Soquem and Noranda Exploration, a unit of Noranda (TSE), on base metal properties near Quebec City and in the Eastern Twps., Que.
In one agreement, Noranda can earn a 50% interest in Soquem’s Dussault and Lescarbot properties, 100 km northwest of Quebec City, by spending $1.2 million on exploration during the next four years. Base and precious metal mineralization has been found on both properties. Drilling by Soquem in 1991 returned values up to 6.2% zinc, 0.22% copper, and 0.8 grams gold per tonne over five metres. Under the agreement, Soquem will be the operator. In a second agreement, Soquem can earn a 50% interest in Noranda’s St-Sylvestre, Sutton and Coleraine properties in the Eastern Twps. by funding $900,000 in exploration work over the next three years. The St-Sylvestre and Coleraine properties are 15 km north of Thetford Mines, Que., the Sutton property is 30km south of Granby, Que.
