Encouraging results have been received from metallurgical tests carried out in Germany on a sample from the Hall chromite deposit at Thetford Mines, Que., Ressources Minieres Coleraine (ME) reports.
The tests were performed by Mannesmann Demag under the supervision of consulting firm Sideloy Inc. According to Coleraine, the tests demonstrate it is possible to produce high-quality ferrochrome from the deposit that greatly surpasses norms established by the steel industry for chargechrome used in the manufacture of stainless steel. Concentrate produced by the Centre de Recherche Minerale du Quebec was used in the testing.
Coleraine says it will likely complete its technical and economic studies for the Hall deposit by the end of the summer.
