A quarterly dividend is being considered by Southern Peru Copper, which owns and operates a pair of mines and a smelter in the southern region of Peru, employing 5,700 persons. Total dividend payments for the first quarter of 1992 were US$4 million.
The company, owned 52.3% by Asarco (NYSE), produced 300,200 tons copper, 3.1 million oz. silver and 6.7 million lb. molybdenum in 1991. Minority owners of Southern Peru are The Marmon Group, 20.7% interest, Phelps Dodge Overseas Capital Corp., 16.3%, and Newmont Mining (NYSE), 10.7%.
