Noranda Sales was recently appointed exclusive sales agent for copper and zinc concentrates produced by Westmin Resources (TSE) at its Myra Falls mine complex near Campbell River, B.C.
Westmin, which described markets for its concentrate products as “difficult,” expects the alliance will add value and enhance existing relationships with customers. Westmin and Noranda have corporate ties in that Brascade Resources is a large shareholder in both companies. During the past year Westmin has made considerable productivity improvements at its Myra Falls mine where several important new discoveries were made and are now being accessed by underground development.
A recent hole drilled to test the Battle zone (one of the more significant discoveries) returned 14.6 metres (47.9 ft.) grading 0.5 grams (0.015 oz.) gold and 23 grams (0.67 oz.) silver per tonne, 4.4% copper, 1.2% lead and 11% zinc.
