The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (CIM), Toronto Branch, is organizing a spring field trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Scheduled for the week of May 17-24, the trip will take in visits to several mines in the historic gold district as well as an escorted tour of Mount Rushmore and other historic sites. Participants will stay near the twin cities of Lead and Deadwood.
Considering the proposed merger between Homestake Mining and International Corona, the CIM trip is a timely one. Participants will be treated to a full-day tour of Homestake’s 110-year old mine, which employs 1,300 people and pumps out more than 300,000 oz. gold per year.
