Silver production at the Crofoot/ Lewis heap leach mine in Nevada jumped to 66,379 oz. during the first quarter of 1992.
Hycroft Resources & Development (VSE), owner of the mine, notes that the operation is currently producing about 4 oz. silver for each 1 oz. gold, with no appreciable increase in operating costs.
Gold production for the first quarter totaled 23,199 oz., putting the gold-silver ratio at 2.86-to-1.
The increased silver output originates out of the South Central pit which is currently running about 0.3 oz. per ton of cyanide soluble silver, equal to about 160,000 oz. of silver per month being placed on the leach pads. Hycroft is now conducting tests to optimize the recovery of silver. Recent drilling in the area indicates the higher grade silver ore persists to the south of the current mine workings and increases with depth. The company expects the higher levels of silver output will be maintained throughout the year. Precious metal production in 1991 totaled 94,340 oz. gold and 151,563 oz. silver.
Hycroft is 67% owned by Granges (TSE).
