Placer Dome appoints new v.p. exploration

International mining giant Placer Dome (TSE) has appointed Eliseo Gonzalez- Urien vice-president of exploration with responsibility for the company’s exploration activities worldwide, excluding those of Placer Pacific.

A graduate of the University of Chile in Santiago in geology, Gonzalez-Urien did his postgraduate studies at the University of California. He then worked for Texasgulf Sulphur, Noranda and BHP- Utah Minerals. His most recent position was vice-president of exploration for Placer Dome U.S., a unit of Placer Dome, based in San Francisco.

Gonzalez-Urien succeeds Lawrie Reinertson who was recently appointed managing director of Placer Pacific based in Sydney, Australia.
