BOOM BOOM

Atlas Copco Canada has an exAtensive range of 2-boom jumbos Ato suit almost any heading size. Most units can also be equipped with basket booms for bolting and/or blasthole charging, as well as a rod-adding system to drill longer holes for probing, destressing or pre-consolidation, says product manager Paul Bertrand.

A F6L 912W Deutz diesel engine mounted on a Getman carrier is standard equipment on all four of the company’s rubber-tired models.

Two COP 1032 or 1238 drifters can be mounted on two BUT 25 booms on the Boomer H 227. These booms, which weigh 1.3 tonnes each, are six metres long and have a 1.25-m extension capability. The Boomer H 227 is also equipped with two 37-kw electric pump motors to drive the hydraulics and a 120-m power cable.

COP 1238 drifters are recommended for both the Boomer H 230 and H 235 jumbos. The 230 unit is equipped with BUT 30 booms, while the 235 is equipped with the longer BUT 35 boom model. Both of these booms can be extended an additional 1.6 m. The BUT 35 booms weigh three tonnes each, almost double the 1.8-tonne BUT 30 booms. Both of these units are equipped with two 45-kw electric pump motors and 120-m-long power cables.

Copco’s most powerful drifter, the COP 1440, is used in conjunction with BUT 35 booms on the Rocket Boomer H 245 jumbo. These drifters are rated at 22 kW and hit the rock at a rate of 60 to 70 times per second.

Two 75-kw electric pump motors are required and the unit comes equipped with a power cable measuring 100 m long.

The company’s three rail-mounted jumbos are designed around the same three Copco booms and hydraulic drifters described above. All of the units are considerably narrower than the wheel-mounted units. The rail units are available in track gauges of 600, 750 or 900 mm.

Atlas Copco also builds a crawler-mounted, 2-boom jumbo. Mounted on an Intertrac carrier, this unit comes equipped with two BUT 30 booms and either the COP 1032 or COP 832R drifter. Standard equipment includes two 30-kw electric motors.

BOART CANADA

Boart manufactures 2-boom jumbos in one standard configuration. Variations on this are available, depending on customer requirements.

Mounted on a Minejack M40P centre-articulated carrier, the Boart Tunnelmaster jumbo is equipped with two BDS-70 2000 U drill booms and positioner and two HD 150 hydraulic rock drills. The booms have a 2-m extension capability.

The R372 power pack features two 45-kw main pump motors and a 150-m power cable.

The unit is powered by a F6L 912W deutz diesel rated at 60 kw or a Caterpillar 3304 PCNA diesel rated at 75 kw. Turning radius is 4.4 m.

CONTINUOUS MINING SYSTEMS

Continuous Mining Systems of Sudbury has recently expanded its line of twin-boom jumbos, designed to carry the Montabert line of hydraulic drifters. The company now offers two models of jumbos instead of just one. The new model numbers indicate the number of booms and the type of boom. The CJ-235 is equipped with two buc 35 booms and the CJ-224 is equipped with two buc 24 booms.

Each jumbo is equipped with a F6L-912 W Deutz diesel engine on a Getman carrier. The CJ-224 is equipped with a 37.28-kw electric motor and a 106-m electric cable while the CJ-235 has a larger 44.74-kw motor and a 99-m cable.

The buc 24 boom has a 1-m extension while the buc 35 can be extended 1.5 m. Each, of course, is fitted with a Montabert hc series hydraulic drifter featuring an energy recuperation system.

Operating weights are 18.3 tonnes for the CJ-224 and 22.5 tonnes for the CJ-235.

EIMCO/SECOMA

The Pluton 17 and the Pluton 24 twin-boom articulated drill jumbos, marketed by EIMCO/SECOMA are equipped with a 6-cylinder, F6L-912W Deutz, diesel engine rated at 60 kw for tramming. The units can negotiate curves with a turning radius of 2.65 m and 2.51 m respectively. Although the two units do not weigh the same, tramming seed specifications are identical at three kilometres per hour in first gear and seven kilometres per hour in second. Maximum operating grade is 20^o (deg) and 7,500 cu ft per mine of ventilation air is required by law.

Both units are equipped with a 60-L fuel tank and a 400-L hydraulic tank.

Secoma’s Hydrastar 300 is standard on both units. This 130-kg drifter, which has an impact frequency of 40 to 50 impacts per second, can drill holes ranging from 45 mm in diameter up to 70 mm. Striking energy is adjustable up to 300 joules.

Two drifters are mounted on B 26 booms on the Pluton 17 and on B 37 booms on the Pluton 24. Both boom models are designed to maintain an orientation parallel to other holes drilled in a particular round. The big difference between the two models is in their length and extension lengths. The 5.1-m B 26 boom extends an additional 1.2 m while the 6.1-m long B 37 boom extends 1.7 m. The added length tags 150 kg on to the weight of each boom.

Drill steel lengths up to 3.7 m can be used on the Pluton 17 and up to 4.9 m on the Pluton 24.

GARDNER DENVER

Gardner Denver manufactures three models of 2-boom hydraulic drill jumbos: the MK35H, the MK65H and the MK120H.

The smallest of the three, the MK35H, is equipped with a 4-cylinder, F4L 912W Deutz diesel engine while the MK65H and MK120H are powered by the gutsier 6-cylinder, F6L 912W Deutz diesel or a Caterpillar 3304 diesel engine.

Thirty-five-degree articulation on either side of center and power steering aid tramming in drifts as narrow as 3.9 m wide.

The power pack on each jumbo consists of two 45-kw electric motors. The MK35H has a 91-m electric cable, the MK65H a 122-m cable.

The two MD84 booms on the MK35H range from 2.2 m long to 3.66 m long and are equipped with HFA 14 feeds. The MD105 booms on the MK65H are three metres to 4.6 m long and are also equipped with HFA 14 feeds. Two boom models are available for the MK120H. Either the HD104 or the HD126 Hydra-King booms may be used. The HD 104 is three metres long with a 1.2-m extension while the HD126 is 3.66 m long plus 1.8 m extension. Either hfm or hfa feed is used.

Gardner Denver HPR-1 hydraulic drills are standard on all jumbos. They have a variable impact rate of 2,500 to 4,000 strikes per minute with an impact energy rating of 170 to 270 joules. Hole sizes range from 64 to 89 mm in diameter.

MClEAN & ASSOCIATES

McLean & Associates of Collingwood, Ont., specializes in filling niches in the hydraulic drill jumbo market, so it does not have particular drill jumbo designs. The company is particularly noted for its roof-bolters and shaft-sinking jumbos, says product manager Ernie Schaffernicht. McLean builds 2-boom development jumbos equipped with sig hydraulic drifters to customer specifications.

TAMROCK CANADA

Tamrock has two types of double-boom jumbos:

* The S-class jumbos which feature the HL 538 drifter (15.5 kw) and two 45-kwpower packs.

* And a new series called the Jumbo 2000 series, which features a new 22-kw HL 500 drifter and two 55-kw power packs.

The HS 205 D, which is equipped with a F6L 912 W Deutz diesel engine mounted on a TPA 95 carrier, has a tramming speed of 10 km per hour on the level and three kilometres per hour on a 14% ramp. Inside turning radius is 2.7 m.

The HS 205 M is identical to the HS 205 D except that it is equipped with two MR 600 booms, making it 1.65 m longer than the HS 205 D and giving added face coverage.

The HS 205 T is equipped with two RU 1000 booms. These give even more face coverage.

The Mini 206 D is the largest and newest of Tamrock’s 2-boom jumbo line. It features the company’s new HL 500 drifter and ZRU 700 booms.
