Montreal Exchange Hot Freewest results

Trading was mixed on the week, with the market portfolio climbing 4.4 points and the mining and minerals index jumping almost 28 points. Volume was fairly steady, ranging between 4.7 million and 7.5 million shares. Investors again were attracted to the “seniors.”

Vassan Resources is seeking shareholder approval to change its name to Savanor Resources. The company also wishes to consolidate its shares on a 10-old-for-1-new basis. Vassan closed unchanged at 5 cents with 48,600 shares changing hands.

Trading 27,500 shares and gaining 1 cents to 60 cents was Cache Explorations, which recently came under the administrative control of Corpomin Management of Montreal. Corpomin is Cache’s majority shareholder. Cache reports it is hoping to raise $500,000 through a private financing scheme.

Negotiating a deal with Dufresnoy Inc. to allow it to earn a 50% interest in the New-Bidlamaque Union Mining property near Val d’Or, Que., is Placer Dome. The agreement calls for Placer to spend $1.6 million on exploration work on the property. Dufresnoy slipped 1 cents to 43 cents on a volume of 29,000, while Placer rose $1.13 to $19.38 on almost 1.6 million shares.

St. Genevieve Resources and Vauquelin Mines have negotiated a private placement involving shares and warrants, which will permit St. Genevieve to become a major shareholder in Vauquelin. Trading 29,900 shares, St. Genevieve moved up 3 cents to $2.05, while Vauquelin dropped 4 cents to 40 cents on 14,000 shares.

A series of private placements raised, in total, almost $2.4 million for Ressources Val d’Or, which will spend most of the money on exploration work at the Bardome zinc project north of the town of Val d’Or. Trading 100,500 shares, Val d’Or closed unchanged at 28 cents . Its partner in the Bardome project, Abcourt Mines, slipped 1 cents to 30 cents on 23,100 shares. — 30 — File: NIB:1:4641 News in Brief

Eastern shareholders will receive 0.1519- new-for-1-old; Gallant shareholders will receive 0.2266-new-for-1- old; Silver Sceptre shareholders will receive 0.1204-new-for-1-old; Stand ard shareholders will receive 0.2735-new-for-1-old. Transfer agent is Central Guaranty Trust Company.

Meadow Mountain Resources has changed its name to First Impression Singles Network (FIM:VSE) on a share-for-share basis. Transfer agent is Pacific Corporate Services.
