Jonpol,T & H sinking shaft in Garrison Twp

John Pollock, president of both companies, says the program under way will include sinking a 500-ft shaft, as well as underground drilling and bulk sampling for metallurgical testing.

The 9-claim property was originally optioned from Newfield Mines (COATS) in 1987. Toronto-based LAC Minerals (TSE) currently has an option to earn a 50% interest in the property from Jonpol and T & H, which hold a 64% and 36% interest respectively.

During the past two years, the Jonpol group of companies have been successful in outlining geological reserves totalling 1.31 million tons averaging 0.231 oz gold per ton on the Newfield property. The mineralized zone is reported to have a true width of 11.9 ft. Based on 230,000 ft of surface diamond drilling, three mineralized zones have been defined alo ng a strike length of 1,600 ft and to a depth of 1,000 ft.

According to Pollock, two holes that tested the 1,900-ft horizon also intersected ore grade mineralization. The zones remain open at depth.

On the adjacent Garrcon property, situated to the east in Garrison Twp., Jonpol has established an additional drill-indicated reserve of 350,900 tons averaging 0.19 oz gold. LAC also holds an option to earn a 50% interest in that property.

Under the terms of an option agreement signed last year, LAC can earn a 50% interest in several of Jonpol’s properties. The senior gold mining company has committed to spend a total of $700,000 by next June, Pollock said.

Geologically, the Jonpol properties straddle a 2.5-mile section of the Destor-Porcupine and Munro fault zones which cut mafic and ultramafic volcanic rocks underlying the area.

On the Newfield property, gold mineralization is associated with a quartz-sericite-carbonate unit within talc-chlorite ultramafic rocks. “The gold is hosted by fine pyrite and arsenopyrite,” Pollock said. “There is only occasional visible gold in the core,” he added.

The Jonpol companies have raised flow-through funds totalling $1.4 million from NIM, and another $570,000 from CMP for the current underground exploration program, said Pollock.

Preliminary metallurgical test work on drill core samples has indicated gold mineralization from the property is refractory and cannot be processed at LAC’s Macassa mill in Kirkland Lake.
