Roach was born in 1904 and graduated from Queen’s University in 1932 with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He worked throughout Canada and the world and became an expert in mill design and metal recovery.
He joined Rio Algom in 1955 and was closely associated with the company’s Elliot Lake operations. Later he worked in South Africa where he operated a pilot copper plant before returning to Canada and designing the plant at Lornex’s mine in the Highland Valley of British Columbia.
After his retirement in 1971, Roach worked as a consultant to several gold companies in the Val d’Or area of Quebec.
