Thunderwood still drifting in high grade at Gold Hawk

Using the production shaft of neighbor Aur Resources’ (TSE) First Canadian property and the 750-ft level drift on its own ground, Thunderwood recently completed phase 1 of an exploration program on the No 1 quartz vein.

Completed March 31, the program consisted of 1,600 ft of crosscutting, 781 ft of drifting on the main level and a sublevel, 74 ft of raising in the gold zone and 3,750 ft of underground diamond drilling.

Muck samples for the first 855 ft of drifting, raising and sublevel drifting in the vein average 0.52 oz gold per ton over a mining width of 5.1 ft, according to President John Heslop.

“Panel chip samples of successive faces over the same interval average 0.77 oz,” he said.

Raising and sublevel drifting above the 750-ft level drift, which averaged 0.36 oz over 507 ft, yielded an average grade of 0.71 oz over a length of 274 ft in the subdrift and 0.82 oz over a height of 37 ft in each of two raises.

“These results have confirmed the continuity of the Gold Hawk deposit both horizontally and vertically and have significantly increased the gold grades in this area,” said Heslop.

So far, 3,622 tons of gold ore have been stockpiled on the surface. This ore will provide part of a bulk sample for mill testing during 1989.

Phase two of the program will begin within the next few weeks and will consist of additional drifting, raising and underground diamond drilling. A production feasibility study is expected to follow when the underground program is complete.
