An expanded drill program is about to begin on the remote Turquetil property where partners Dejour Mines (TSE) (50%) and Noble Peak Resources (ASE) (50%) have obtained some good intersections.
Located 225 km southwest of Rankin Inlet in the Northwest Territories, the 15,000-ha property was recently the subject of a 17-hole program which contained significant sections of alteration and sulphide mineralization.
During the first phase of the 1988 exploration program at Turquetil, the joint venture partners have indicated favorable mineralization over a 5,248-ft strike length.
Operator Dejour has focused on the eastern end of a highly prospective belt of metavolcanics and chemical sediments which was traced to the southwest over a length of 7.2 miles last year.
While the property’s remote location means that gold values must be relatively higher than those in more accessible regions to be considered economic, results so far have been encouraging. Highlights from assays received so far are as follows: Hole No. Core Length (ft) Gold oz/ton 88-01 11.8 0.239 88-02 18.1 0.288 88-05 12.1 0.131 88-06 7.9 0.608 88-08 6.6 0.268 88-14 10.8 0.160 88-18 10.8 0.295
“The results indicate mineralization of the Kerr Addison/Larder Lake, Ont., type,” said Noble Peak President Norman Ursel. Continuity of the zones is evident in Holes 11, 12, 15 and 16 which intercepted wide sections of sulphide mineralization with lower gold values,” he said.
