First inductees into the recently-formed Canadian Mining Hall of Fame will be announced at an inaugural dinner to be held in Toronto November 21.
The Hall of Fame will pay tribute to those individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the Canadian mining industry. It is being sponsored by the Mining Association of Canada, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Northern Miner Press Limited.
Ten individuals now deceased and two living will be formally inducted into the Hall at the inaugural dinner. They will reflect major developments in mining over the years from across Canada.
William James, chairman of Falconbridge Ltd., will be the keynote speaker at the dinner.
Initially, the Hall of Fame will not have a permanent location, although Hall of Fame committee chairman M.R. Brown says one may be considered in the future. For the present, a display unit consisting of portraits of the inductees will be assembled and made available for showing at events staged by interested organizations.
