Letters to the Editor Media response needed

I enjoyed your June 22 editorial, Mining has a story to tell, perhaps because I wrote the words, but certainly because I believe in the message. So will any observer of the power of public opinion polls.

I was less impressed by your June 29 editorial, A question of money, because your response is more likely to turn people off than challenge them. I don’t believe we are the sort of consumer-oriented industry that needs or would gain by an expensive TV campaign.

My challenge was to industry executives to go out and find or make the opportunity to deliver our story, whether it be in speaking to the Chamber of Comnmerce, the local council, a high school class, government committees, or in media interviews; particularly the latter, because we need to get the media strongly on our side.

And, if there remains any “public be damned”mind set, we had better get rid of it fast, and let the public know we are so doing. Roy Aitken Executive Vice-President Inco Ltd.
