Falconbridge reorganizes its exploration group

A major reorganization of its Canada-wide exploration group has been put in place by Falconbridge Ltd.

A principal thrust of the reorganization, the company’s vice- president exploration, M. J. Knuckey, tells The Northern Miner, is to concentrate on Falconbridge’s core operations around Sudbury and Timmins, Ont.

Following are the new appointments involved;

L. A. Wrigglesworth, formerly senior geologist mines services, becomes director of ore reserves and grade control, a move Mr Knuckey says emphasizes the importance of these responsibilities during periods of low metal prices.

C. D. A. Comba moves from the position of regional exploration manager in Timmins, to chief exploration geologist at Sudbury operations. H. F. Keats moves from the Winnipeg office to become regional exploration manager in Timmins.

R. L. Moore, formerly regional exploration manager for British Columbia, is appointed regional exploration manager for western Canada, including responsibility for the Vancouver and Winnipeg offices.

Appointed senior exploration geologists are Frank Hassard, in Vancouver, Raymond Band, Winnipeg, A. H. Green in Timmins, and Jamie Robertson in Windsor, N.S.

Project geologist E. L. Barnett will be transferred to Sudbury from Timmins, and former contract geologists John Pattison in Vancouver, Jamie Cechetto, Roman Gadzola and Murray Jerome in Timmins, have been appointed field geologists.

Mr Knuckey says Falconbridge now has a complement of 45 in its Canadian exploration establishment, including 30 geologists, and 15 support staff. Outside of Canada, there are seven Falconbridge geologists, in Zimbabwe and Botswana, and one in the Dominican Republic.
