Joy Technologies of Kitchener, Ont., has booked an order valued in excess of $12 million for the supply of 10 electrostatic precipitators to Chemetics International of Toronto. The units will be included in Chemetics’ sulphuric acid plant contract for Noranda Minerals, Horne Division, in Rouyn-Noranda, Que. Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria, Ill., expects profits in 1988 to improve as industry sales increase, the company’s competitive position strengthens, and cost reduction efforts continue, according to the company’s annual report. The report indicates price realization should also improve in the weak dollar environment expected throughout 1988. On Jan 20, the company announced a profit in 1987 of $350 million, or $3.51 per share of common stock, the highest profit since 1981 and an improvement of $274 million over 1986. Sales for the year were $8.18 billion, up $859 million from 1986. Worldwide machine sales increased 13%, with engine sales rising 6%. Total debt was reduced by $98 million to $1.48 million and spending for research and development totalled $298 million. A contract on the delivery of the first batch of Soviet excavating machines to the U.S. was recently signed by the Krex foreign-trade self- financing firm set up in the Kiev Krasny Excavator production amalgamation and Earthworm Tractor Co. (usa). The full-revolving shovels EO-4321B feature superior cutting forces, the possibility to quickly mount many types of separable equipment, mobility and enhanced cross-country capability. American partners think these machines have a good chance to compete with many famous firms. Dimatec Inc. has purchased the manufacturing division of Germac Enterprises, formerly known as Delro Industries. Dimatec is a Canadian company and its shareholders include the former operating management of the Delro Division. The location of the plant and offices remains unchanged at: 180 Cree Crescent, Winnipeg, Man. R3J 3W1. Dimatec manufactures its diamond tools on the most modern computer-controlled equipment available. The company’s impregnated core bits are used extensively across Canada. –30–
