Mining companies and their employees in British Columbia and The Yukon contributed close to a quarter of a million dollars during a recent Telethon campaign to raise funds for Vancouver’s Children’s Hospital.
The money from the mining community added up to nearly 15% of the $1.6-million total realized from the drive.
Campaign chairman for the mining section of the Telethon was James O’Rourke, president of Cassiar Mining, and he and his company are credited with much of the success of the mining community’s campaign.
Quintette Coal and its employees, for instance, alone contributed $53,000 to the campaign, and Transwest Dynequip won special recognition for contributing the most per capita, an average contribution of $53 per employee.
