VANCOUVER — Following an amazingly short construction period of 35 weeks, Pioneer Metals is commissioning the mill at its Puffy Lake gold project in northwestern Manitoba. As anticipated, the first dore bar was poured Dec 15 and initial throughput should average about 650 tons per day, increasing to 1,000 tons (design capacity) by February. Robert D. Willis, president, confirms that low grade stock piles will be processed until underground production begins this January. Proton Systems of Vancouver acted as construction engineers and managers and Willis says the project is on schedule and within its $18-million budget.
Three diamond drills are on site, two near the main ore zones and one on geophysical anomalies discovered this fall. “Results to date have indicated an increase of ore reserves in the main orebody,” he states.
Several weeks ago (N.M., Dec 14/87) Willis said the company hoped to double reserves by February. “Visual results on other anomalous horizons are very encouraging as rock types and sulphides similar to the main orebody have been encountered,” he adds.
