John Deere has redesigned its compact crawler line and has introduced a new line of machine sizes. The all new 70-hp 450G, 80-hp 550G and 90-hp 650G dozers provide more quality and value than any of John Deere’s preceding crawlers, the company says.
All have a new Dura-Shift transmission that provides the convenience of a full powershift design and the broad working range of four speeds forward and a single reverse gear.
A power control pedal enables the operator to modulate engine power to the tracks under all load conditions while maintaining engine speed for responsive hydraulics. This provides precise control for close-quarter work and can be used to reduce track spin during heavy cuts or in wet soil conditions, the company says.
The transmission does not use a torque converter, which means engine power normally lost as heat in the converter is available to the tracks.
Each crawler is powered by a 4-cylinder, 276-cu-inch John Deere diesel engine with a 30% increase in torque that provides fast recovery and reserve power for work in tough conditions.
With 18-inch track shoes and 85 inches of track on the ground, the standard-track 650G has a ground pressure of 6 lb per sq inch. A wide-track version, with a 69-inch track gauge and 24-inch shoes, has a ground pressure of 4.7 lb per sq inch and an operating weight of 19,400 lb.
A new design for attaching the all- hydraulic blade to the C-frame improves blade tightness for better blade control than previous models, the company says.
