Obituary Verne Drake

Verne Drake, a former manager at Orlac Red Lake Mines in northwester n Ontario, has died in Saskatoon, at age 70.

A graduate in mining engineering from the University of Alberta, Mr Drake spent a good part of his early career in Ontario’s Red Lake gold camp, and was chief engineer at Cochenour Willans Gold Mines, before becoming manager at Orlac.

In the late 1940s, he returned to Edmonton, Alta., where he entered the mine equipment business. Then, in 1968, he moved with his family to Saskatoon where he spent the rest of his career with the National Mining Service company, specializing in equipment and maintenance for the potash industry.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, a son, James, two daughters, Margaret and Barbara, and two grandchildren.
