In the long-hole stoping method, ore is blasted over wide areas and left to be picked up at a later time. But the rock being encountered today is so soft that by the time the ore is mucked out, enough of the wall has chipped off and mixed with the ore to cut the millhead grade severely. However, with the new mining method, it’s believed the average ore grade will return to 0.20 oz gold per ton from the average 0.15 oz gold per ton recently experienced.
