One editorial too far

For a long time I have just overlooked The Northern Miner’s page 4 editorial. It tends not to reflect my own political philosophy, but that is not why I subscribe to The Miner, so it never bothered me.

However, the title of your March 31-April 6 editorial, “With friends like us . . .,” caught my attention, and after reading the piece I felt compelled to tell you I am not amused. I am overloaded with lies and propaganda from south of our borders, and count myself among the majority of Canadians who are opposed to that pitiful colonial war again Iraq. I have no sympathy for Saddam Hussein, but his kind of dictatorship has been the rule, rather than the exception, in the Third World. Moreover, our southern “friend” has shown it is more than happy to support dictators if it suits their national interest.

I don’t know what game you are playing; maybe you are just following the editorial line of Hollinger Canadian Newspapers, or maybe you are trying to placate your American readers. Some would say that that is sound business; I say you are prostituting yourself and our Canadian ideals. You have gone too far. Adieu.
