Following a 4-hole drilling program on the Cerro Samenta property in northwestern Argentina,
Teck tested a newly discovered zone of specular hematite-fluorite-copper-gold-zinc mineralization on the southern portion of the Cerro Samenta property package. Mineralization in the El Camino zone is separate and distinct from the previously known zones of porphyry copper-gold mineralization. The style of mineralization and alteration led Mansfield to believe that the new zone may represent the upper levels of an Olympic Dam-type, iron oxide-copper-gold prospect.
Intervals of hematite-fluorite breccia, anomalous in copper and gold, were encountered in all four holes.
In the meantime, Teck is preparing to begin a 3,000-metre first pass of drilling on Mansfield’s Rio Grande property, 25 km southeast of Cerro Samenta. Copper-gold results from initial hand-trenching in two cross trenches included 96 metres grading 0.58% copper and 0.98 gram gold per tonne, plus 30 metres grading 0.72% copper and 1.1 grams gold. Teck followed up with further sampling and a geophysical magnetic survey. Results from a recent, 3,000-metre program of mechanized trenching are being compiled and assessed. Teck can earn up to a 65% interest by spending $4 million over four years, paying a total of $1 million and financing the property through to feasibility.
On the nearby Arizaro property, wholly owned by Mansfield, 935 metres in two mechanized trenches were channel-sampled at 1-metre intervals. Assay results included 46 metres grading 0.4% copper and 1.13 grams gold in trench 0, plus 64 metres grading 0.31% copper and 0.86 gram gold (including 24 metres of 0.37% copper and 1.67 grams gold) in trench 1. A further 2,935 metres in 14 trenches on the Arizaro zone remain to be sampled. At a separate target, dubbed Lindero, 1,650 metres in 10 trenches await sampling. Teck holds a right of first refusal on Arizaro.
