Anatolia proves up porphyry prospect in Turkey

Anatolia Minerals Development (AMCD.U-C) is encouraged by results from channel-sampling carried out on two subparallel traverses on the Cukurdere porphyry-skarn prospect in eastern Turkey.

The upper traverse averaged 1.17 grams gold per tonne and 0.17% copper over 197.5 metres, including high values of 4.43 grams gold, 0.8% copper and 13 grams silver.

The lower traverse, as much as 400 metres distant from the upper traverse, averaged 1.44 grams gold and 0.08% copper over 637 metres, including 125 metres of 3.1 grams gold. The highest value assayed 13.44 grams gold, 34 grams silver and 0.77% copper.

The prospect occurs in a 1-by- 2-km depression and is hosted in altered and mineralized granodiorite that intrudes limestones. The granodiorite shows intense leaching, along with stockworking and silicified breccias. The prospect shows signs of ancient copper mining and smelting but is in a belt of porphyry prospects that have not received modern attention.

Anatolia and its partner, London-based Rio Tinto (RTP-N), will continue their program of geochemical and geophysical surveys, with drilling scheduled to follow later in the year.

Rio Tinto is earning a 70% interest in Cukurdere by spending US$10.5 million over four years. The company has formed similar agreements for the Uckapili gold and Kabatas copper-gold prospects, also in Turkey. In all, Anatolia has received US$2.8 million in private placements and exploration funds from Rio Tinto since April.
