Richard Roberts, a former special editions editor for The Northern Miner, has died. He was 85.
Roberts began his career in journalism following his service with the First Canadian Army in Europe during the Second World War. His first reporting job was with The Globe and Mail. He later joined The Toronto Telegram as a feature writer on mining issues.
Roberts joined the staff of The Miner in 1971. He headed the paper’s western office in British Columbia until 1978 when he returned to Toronto to assume the positions of special editions editor and vice president of Norgraphics. He retired in 1984.
Roberts is survived by wife Shirley, four children and grandchildren.
