Mill Maintenance General Foreman

Reporting to the Plant Superintendent and working closely with the Electrical and Mill Operations departments, the successful candidate will be in charge of the millwright trades and support personnel and will be responsible to lead and develop the 2 maintenance supervisors.

Duties include safety and training, establishing correct procedures, procurement and inventory control, and coordinating planned maintenance with the mill operations department.

Applicants should be a licensed tradesman or technical school graduate and have a minimum of 10 years mill maintenance experience with at least 5 years at a supervisory level.

Huckleberry Mine is a remote mine where its employees live in a camp environment on their days of work. This position works a 4 x 3 schedule (Tuesday to Friday). While at the mine site all meals and accomodations are provided free of charge to employees.

Careers with Canada’s First Diamond Mine

BHP Diamonds Inc. is presently developing Canada’s first diamond mine 300 km north of Yellowknife, capital of the Northwest Territories. When fully operational in the fall of 1998, the Ekati Diamond Mine will employ close to 500 people.

The company provides air transportation between Yellowknife and the site for each work rotation. Staff are housed in comfortable, modern facilities on the site.

Due to the stringent security requirements, all employees will be required to undergo a criminal record check, which may include fingerprinting.

Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent – Process, the incumbent will be responsible for mechanical design of new projects and modifications to exisitng equipment.

Duties include: ensuring that all major construction on the mine site is done to specifications, on schedule and within budget; providing technical experience in solving difficult and/or recurring maintenance problems; designing new systems and installations and ensuring these are built to specification and perform as required.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical and be eligible for professional registration in the NWT. A minimum of five years experience in a mining environment and proficiency in AutoCAD are required. Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems and predictive/preventative maintenance techniques would be a definite asset.

The employee in this position will work a 4/3 schedule (4 days at the mine site and 3 days off) and will be based out of Yellowknife.
