Junior Birim Goldfields (BGI-T) is encouraged by the results of the first of eight holes being drilled on the Mampon gold prospect, situated on the Dunkwa property in Ghana.
Hole BMD-15 intersected 16.3 metres averaging 9.3 grams gold per tonne at a downhole depth of 244 metres (a vertical depth of 225 metres).
The mineralization, which is contained in the strongly graphitic footwall shear zone, consists of abundant quartz and fine-grained arsenopyrite.
The drill program is expected to span 1,575 metres and last until the end of June. The operator is Battle Mountain Gold (BMG-N), which is acquiring a 65% interest in the property.
The drilling is designed to probe the northern, southern and depth extensions of the gold mineralization.
The Mampon deposit, which contains an independently calculated resource of 460,000 oz. gold, was outlined on the basis of 14 diamond drill holes. At the time of the resource calculation, the deepest hole completed went to a vertical depth of 150 metres. That program, completed in March 1996, was interrupted by a moratorium imposed on exploration companies working in Ghana’s forest reserves. The moratorium has since been lifted, allowing Birim and Battle Mountain to continue exploring the 16.4-sq.-km portion of the Dundwa property that was affected.
The property comprises 230 sq. km and stretches for 45 km along the Ashanti gold belt.
