Encouraging results from shallow drilling on the Tassawini gold property in northwestern Guyana have induced Menora Resources (MEN-M) to increase the number of follow-up targets to 12 from 9.
The 12 targets, which will be drilled over an aggregate length of 3,955 metres, vary in width up to 98 metres and average 52 metres.
Seven of the targets are clustered in and around the three pits of the existing 243,000-oz. Tassawini deposit; the other five lie to the west in an area discovered during a 1996 geochemical sampling program.
Previous diamond drilling, exceeding 11,000 metres to depths of up to 70 metres, enabled operators to outline three adjacent deposits with average grades of 1.88, 2.19 and 2.25 grams gold per tonne. In the recent program, the zones in the immediate area above these deposits had an average grade of 1.03 grams gold to a depth of 6 metres.
Menora’s vice-president of exploration, Michael Smith, says the results indicate that grade improves at depth. Moreover, he adds, the findings confirm the potential of the Tassawini property to host more than 1 million contained ounces of gold.
