Ongoing metallurgical studies have allowed Geomaque Explorations (GEO-T) to increase resources for the San Juan zone on its advance-staged Vueltas del Rio gold project in northwestern Honduras.
Resources are now pegged at 3.6 million tonnes grading 1.6 grams per tonne, representing a 45% increase over previous estimates. The new calculation was carried out to include sulphide and mixed oxide-sulphide material after both were recently shown to be amenable to conventional heap-leaching technology.
McClelland Laboratories, which is carrying out the studies, estimates that six months of leaching will liberate 73% of the gold from mixed material and 70% from primary sulphide material. For oxides, gold recovery rates of 89% are anticipated.
Based on the positive results, Geomaque believes that additional resources will be outlined, as mineralization remains open at depth as well as along strike.
Meanwhile, infill drilling is continuing west of San Juan, on the larger Main zone. To date, the company has completed 143 holes there.
