Partners confirm mineralization

Drilling by partners Focal Resources (FCJ-A) and Intrepid Minerals (IAU-A) has confirmed gold and silver mineralization at the Barrios property in eastern El Salvador.

The program represents the first of a 2-phase, 5,000-Metre program by operator Intrepid and is aimed at testing the shallow portions of a brecciated system.

Assay results have been received from the Loma del Caballo target, where three vertically oriented diamond drill holes and nine horizontally oriented reverse-Circulation holes were drilled. That target is one of 12 at Barrios.

The best diamond drill results include: 12.8 metres (from 77 to 89.8 metres) grading 1.38 grams gold and 50 grams silver per tonne in hole DD1; and 3.2 metres (from 86.1 to 89.3 metres) of 2.1 grams gold and 160 grams silver in hole DD2.

Of the reverse-Circulation (RC) holes, the best results include: 7 metres (from 96 to 103 metres) grading 2.3 grams gold and 158 grams silver in hole RC1; 12 metres (from 40 to 52 metres) of 2 grams gold and 19.7 grams silver in hole RC4; 9 metres (from 111 to 120 metres) of 1.75 grams gold and 80.8 grams silver in hole RC8; and 22 metres (from 121 to 143 metres) of 1.56 grams gold and 52.7 grams silver in hole RC9.

Results from two diamond drill holes and three RC holes collared during that phase are pending.

The Barrios property contains large-scale hydrothermal systems in a nested caldera complex. Gold-silver mineralization consists of low-grade envelopes up to 70 metres wide, and these contain silicified breccias and quartz zones 10 to 65 metres wide. The primary gold-bearing mineral is electrum, which is composed of about 60% gold and 40% silver. A separate silver sulphide phase is also abundant in the quartz veins and breccias.

Current exploration at Barrios is focused on the Santiago-Seco Adit mine area within the Loma target, where the partners are drilling on 50-Metre centres.

Prospecting at Barrios has identified gold-silver zones similar to those of the Loma target. Five chip samples taken from trenches and old workings at one zone at Virginia Agua Caliente returned values of 1 to 3.5 grams gold and 130 to 170 grams silver.

Intrepid is earning its 47.5% share through an option agreement with High River Gold Mines (HRG-T), which is selling its grassroots exploration properties to the Toronto-based company. Calgary-based Focal has a 47.5% interest in Barrios, and the remaining 5% is owned by a private company.
