Homestake studies bio-oxidation process

Homestake Mining (HM-N) and Codelco, the Chilean state-owned mining agency, are studying the feasibility of using bio-oxidation techniques to process refractory material at the Agua de la Falda gold project.

With funding from Homestake, California-based GeoBiotics has developed bio-oxidation technology that has resulted in gold recoveries of more than 90%.

Agua de la Falda, which is adjacent to the Hueso gold mine in northern Chile, hosts potential for more than 1.3 million contained ounces, Homestake says.

The company operates the project, in which it has a 51% interest.
