An exploration program, including drilling, will be carried out by Auspex Minerals (APJ-V) on the Koulbaga concession in Niger, West Africa.
The company recently increased its interest in the gold concession to 100% by acquiring a 40% stake from a previous partner.
To date, Auspex has spent US$725,000 exploring the concession. This work has consisted primarily of geophysical surveys, followed by an extensive geochemical program of termite mound sampling and shallow auger and percussion drilling.
Auspex says the exploration work has generated more than 20 targets, including two areas along a major structure.
Rock sampling from the first zone, Bira Lac, has returned values of 1.5-5.5 grams gold per tonne from intermittent outcrops of silicified material along 1.5 km of strike. Trenching is under way on this target.
The second major target, some 6 km to the south, is a quartz-tourmaline zone that has returned values of 1.5-3 grams from quartz outcrops along 1 km of its strike length. Further short-hole percussion drilling is planned for this area, along with followup trenching.
Once this work is completed, a 2,000-metre program of core drilling will begin.
