Montreal-based Altavista Mines (AIA-M) has announced encouraging drill results from its Santa Anna gold property, 15 km southwest of La Sarre, Que.
The new structure, called Zone 8, was first intersected in September 1996 by two exploration holes. Hole 84 returned 3.5 metres grading 4.07 grams gold per tonne from 12.5 to 16 metres depth, while hole 93 cut 5 metres of 4.74 grams gold from 58 to 63 metres.
Hole 98, drilled in December at the same location as hole 84, returned gold values of 14.85 grams over 5.8 metres from 54.7 to 60.5 metres, and 4.23 grams over 4.5 metres from 67.5 to 72 metres.
Another highlight was hole 100, drilled 600 metres northeast of hole 98. Hole 100 returned a gold value of 14.58 grams from 19 to 21 metres.
Zone 8 has been outlined over a strike length of 800 metres and down to a depth of 140 metres. The north-south-trending zone consists of two parallel structures, which remain open at both ends and at depth. Gold is hosted in a silicified, altered rock containing carbonates and chromium-rich mica.
Altavista acquired 29 additional claims at Santa Anna in December 1996, bringing its total land holding to 76 claims.
Drilling in Zone 8 is currently aimed at testing the structure’s extensions.
