THE DIAMOND PAGE — Diavik diamonds more valuable

The value of diamonds from the A-154 South kimberlite pipe at the Diavik project in the Northwest Territories has increased to US$59.30 from US$56.10 per carat.

Ownership of the project, near Lac de Gras, is split 60-40 between Kennecott Canada and Aber Resources (ABZ-T).

To date, Australia-based CRA Diamonds has evaluated 8,979 carats recovered from 1,950 tonnes of a 2,585-tonne bulk sample. An additional 2,760 carats from the sample have yet to be evaluated, as have 979 carats recovered from clean-up piles.

Some of the diamonds will be independently evaluated in Antwerp, Belgium.

The A-154 South pipe contains a drill-inferred resource of 8.4 million tonnes grading 4.54 carats per tonne to a depth of 250 metres. It is believed the property has potential for hosting 20 million tonnes to a depth of 650 metres.

Carats from the A-154 South pipe are now valued at US$269 per tonne.
