SouthernEra work yields 2,000 carats

A bulk-sampling program at SouthernEra Resources’ (SUF-T) Klipspringer diamond project in South Africa has yielded more than 2,000 carats.

A valuation on the first 1,753 diamonds in the parcel, most of which are gem-quality, gave an average value of US$97.75 per carat. About 39% of these stones weighed more than one carat, including a 17-carat diamond found in early September.

Although the material treated to date has consisted mainly of overburden and rubble, SouthernEra is preparing to treat its first batch of pure kimberlite.

A feasibility study is scheduled for early next year.

SouthernEra is also optimistic about the potential for kimberlite pipe discoveries along strike from Klipspringer. More than 60 people are involved in a program of regional exploration and bulk sampling.
