The alluvial diamond mining operations of Hymex Diamond (HMD-V) in the small West African country of Guinea are producing gems at a rate five times higher than a year ago.
In June, the company washed 6,886 cubic metres of gravel at its Diani River project, recovering 3,983 stones weighing a total of 2,115.75 carats, including 409 stones in excess of 1 carat. The average stone size was 0.552 carat and the average grade 0.332 carat per cubic metre. June production showed a 487% increase over that of June 1995.
Hymex has an inventory of 8,065 carats, with an estimated value of US$822,128. In addition, the company’s stock of diamondiferous gravel stood at 17,033 cubic metres on July 1, from which the company expects to recover an additional 5,654.96 carats.
