Drills turn at Meadowbank gold project in N.W.T.

A 33,000-ft. drill program is under way at the Meadowbank gold project north of Baker Lake, N.W.T.

Meadowbank, a 60-40 joint venture between Cumberland Resources (TSE) and Comaplex Minerals (TSE), hosts two gold deposits, Goose Island and Third Portage, which contain a total resource estimated at 850,000 oz. The deposits are situated on the same 2.2-mile long gold trend.

The Third Portage deposit, an open-pittable resource, contains 4.5 million tons of 0.137 oz. gold per ton, while Goose Island hosts an underground resource of 497,000 tons at 0.37 oz. gold

The drill program is designed to delineate Goose Island, as well as test the area between Goose Island and Third Portage. Other targets will be tested later in the year.

Both deposits are open in all directions and have only been drill-tested to 400 ft. below surface.

The partners have also completed metallurgical tests using gravity and whole-ore leaching techniques.

Composite samples from Goose Island and Third Portage carried recoveries of 95.9% and 96.4% gold, respectively.
