CIM sponsors hydrometallurgy conference

The second international Symposium on Iron Control in Hydrometallurgy, in combination with the 26th Annual Hydrometallurgical Meeting, will be held at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa from Oct. 20 to 23.

The symposium will provide a forum for the international metallurgy community to review recent technological developments in iron control, stabilization and disposal.

Sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy & Petroleum (CIM), the symposium will focus on operating practices and diverse aspects of iron control.

Short courses — including physical chemistry of iron solutions, iron control in sulphate hydrometallurgical systems, and phases and solubilities in the iron-arsenate system — will be presented by leading authorities. A post-sumposium tour of the Canadian Electrolytic Zinc plant in Valleyfield, Que., is also scheduled.
