Ontario’s association of professional engineers has formed a task force with a group of geologists to bring about professional registration for geologists.
Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) has invited the geologists to raise a provincial association of their own and develop a set of criteria for licensure.
The geologists first approached PEO in early 1989 to get its support for amending the Engineers’ Act to establish a licensing mechanism and professional standards for geologists. (Such a system is already established in Alberta.)
The geologists’ group has incorporated the Assocation of Geoscientists of Ontario (AGO) to provide a constituency for the task group and establish lines of communication between PEO, the group and Ontario geologists.
The AGO will be holding an open meeting at the convention of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada in Toronto, March 10-13.
For more information, write to the AGO c/o Pearson, Hofman & Associates, 365 Bay St., Suite 804, Toronto, Ont. M5H 2V1. Or contact Rod Shaver at Altech Environmental, 225 Sheppard Ave. W., Toronto. Fax: (416) 226-2931.
