Band-Ore pulls gold at Thorne (February 05, 1996)

At its Thorne project, west of Timmins, Ont., Band-Ore Resources (CDN) has drill-tested the western extension of the Kapika zone, where reserves are estimated at 270,000 tonnes grading 2.5 grams gold per tonne.

The holes went through several near-surface gold zones, with average grades ranging from 1.4 to 2.4 grams gold per tonne over core lengths of 2-5 metres. Other, shorter intersections (0.6-0.75 metres long) had grades of up to 11.7 grams per tonne.

The company has moved the drill to test targets east of the known mineralized zone. No assays are available yet, but drill holes have intersected silicified porphyry (with molybdenite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite) and sericite schist with quartz and ankerite (iron dolomite) alteration.

Mineralization in the Timmins district often occurs in similar host rocks.
