Willoughby drilling is nearly complete (September 04, 1995)

Surface drilling at the Willoughby gold property will wind down following the completion of three remaining holes on the North zone.

Partners Camnor Resources (VSE) and Gold Giant Minerals (VSE) will have tested several mineralized zones in a 27-hole program comprising 9,500 ft.

Camnor, as operator, recently began collaring a 330-ft.-long adit on the North zone at an elevation of 5,400 ft. Underground drilling will begin this month in an attempt to explore the downdip and on-strike potential of the North zone.

The property lies 16 miles east of Stewart, B.C., and consists of 12 claims. The geological and structural setting is similar to the nearby Red Mountain gold project, which Royal Oak Mines (TSE) recently agreed to acquire from Barrick Gold (TSE).

To date, 12 zones of mineralization are identified, most of which are hosted in altered andesitic tuffs and related to a horneblende-feldspar porphyry stock. The North zone, which measures 100 by 1,000 ft. and trends to the northwest, occurs solely within the stock. This altered structure is steep-to-moderate and west-dipping.

Recent drill results from the North zone include 1.6 ft. of 0.38 oz. gold per ton for hole 95-37 and 12.8 ft. of 0.22 oz., as well as 4.6 ft. of 0.32 oz., for hole 95-39. A stepout hole to the south, 95-38, returned no values and is believed to have been drilled over the top of the zone. Assay results for a further three holes are pending.

The Wilby zone is a series of northwest-trending massive pyrite-pyrrhotite lenses within a 30-by-260-ft. zone of altered bedded tuffs. A total of five holes are reported to have intersected massive sulphides, extending the zone for another 260 ft. along strike. Assay results are pending.

Four holes drilled in the Willow zone returned only scattered mineralization, with the best hole, 95-40, intersecting 7.2 ft. of 0.15 oz.

Limited drilling on the Lower and Upper Ice Fall zones included two holes in each structure, with assay results pending.
