Teck Cominco president and CEO Donald Lindsay, one of the most recognizable faces in Canadian mining, will be the feature speaker at the next luncheon meeting of the Vancouver branch of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).
The event is slated for Thursday, May 31 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver.
Lindsay was appointed head of Teck in January 2005 and assumed the additional responsibility of CEO three months later.
Before heading west to join Teck, Lindsay was president of CIBC World Markets in Toronto. In that role he was responsible for both the investment and corporate banking divisions, as well as the banks Asia Pacific region.
Earlier in his career he was the head of the CIBCs Global Mining Group. Lindsay has a degree in mining engineering from Queens University and a master of business administration degree from Harvard.
Lindsay will discuss his companys position in Canadian mining and growth opportunities.
Teck Cominco has assets nearing $11 billion and is one of the worlds largest producers of zinc and metallurgical coal. Its diversified operations also produce significant quantities of copper and gold.
