Sultan taps high grade moly in Kootenays

Vancouver – A couple of drill holes by Sultan Minerals (SUL-V) on its Jersey-Emerald property, near Salmo in southeastern British Columbia, has cut significant molybdenum and tungsten mineralization.

Two underground holes tested beneath known mineralization at the Emerald mine, returning high grade molybdenum plus tungsten values.

Hole 1, collared just south of an exposed molybdenum-bearing stockwork, targeted possible extensions to historic tungsten zones. A 28-metre section of tungsten mineralization contained multiple high grade intercepts including 1.1 metres of 0.2% tungsten, 3.6 metres of 0.14% tungsten and 2.1 metres of 0.27% tungsten. Mineralization encountered is part of the southern extension of the past producing East Dodger tungsten mine.

Hole 2, positioned to test a 300-metre wide moly bearing stockwork, intersected 59 metres grading 0.22% MoS2, including a 1-metre interval of 5.2% MoS2 near the end of the hole, which was stopped in mineralization.

Molybdenum mineralization typically occurs as high grade molybdenite bearing quartz veins forming the stockwork in a granitic intrusive.

The Jersey and Emerald lead-zinc-tungsten mines were operated by Placer Dome (PDG-T) between 1947 and 1973. The Emerald-Dodger tungsten operation, closed in 1973 due to low prices, was the second largest producer of the metal in Canada.

High market prices for molybdenum and tungsten have prompted Sultan to expand its exploration program around the historic workings. The network of underground workings is in good condition, providing access to the margins of the recently discovered zones of mineralization.
