More work at Simon Copper South

Pelangio Mines (PLG-V) has cut significant copper and zinc at its 16-sq.-km Simon Copper property, 135 km west of Ottawa, Ont.

The latest drilling is highlighted by a 14.5-metre intercept that graded 0.54% copper and 0.76% zinc at a down-hole depth of 117 metres. This includes several narrower intervals that grade between 1.1-2.8% copper and 0.8-5.1% zinc over widths of 1.2-3.2 metres.

Five holes (about 1,008 metres in total) were drilled in the vicinity of the Simon Copper South (SCS) zone. The aforementioned assays are from a hole that was targeted to cut a geophysical anomaly in the hanging wall of the zone. The hole failed to cut the anomaly, but did cut the zone.

Two holes were drilled to test geophysical anomalies in the vicinity of the zone. A hanging wall anomaly was explained by one hole that cut a 1-metre interval grading 0.18% copper, 0.09% zinc and 0.8 gram silver per tonne.

Three other holes targeted the SCS zone further along its strike and at greater depth than previous holes. A hole that tested the zone about 90 metres further north along strike, cut 9.9 metres grading 0.4% copper at a down-hole depth of 191 metres. A second hole, drilled from the same setup, but with a 10 steeper angle cut 0.5-metre that graded 2.86% copper and 0.4% zinc.

Mineralization consists of disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite, minor pyrite and sphalerite. The SCS zone is within folded amphibolite gneiss and associated quartz-feldspar paragneiss. The zone strikes north and dips about 45 to the east.

Other zones have been located on the property. Ground geophysics is planned along strike of the SCS zone, and perpendicular to it, to target more mineralization at depth.
