Wesdome cuts significant gold at Kiena

Wesdome Gold Mines (WDG-T) has hit significant gold at its Kiena mine complex 10 km west of Val d’Or, Que.

Highlights of recent drilling from the 520 level of the past-producing mine include:

  • 14 metres (true width) grading 20.89 grams gold (this becomes 9.7 grams gold when gold is cut to 34.3 grams gold per tonne);
  • 17 metres (true width) grading 9.85 grams gold and,
  • 8 metres (true width) grading 7.2 grams gold per tonne.

In addition, two of these holes hit a second zone from 8-10 metres wide grading 3.8-4 grams gold.

Two other holes cut from 3-9.5 metres grading from 4-5.5 grams gold.

All of these holes were fanned from the same setup with drill angles spaced at 20 (between 4-82).

Drilling focussed on the VC zone, which is comprised of at least three en-echelon lenses. The zone is open at depth.

Gold is associated with silicified and albitized breccias within mafic volcanic rock. Intermediate to felsic porphyry dykes cutting this basalt-komatiite sequence appear to have influenced gold-enrichment.

In 2002, the Kiena mine was estimated to contain a measured and indicated resource of 3 million tonnes grading 4.25 grams gold per tonne. From 1982-2002, the Kiena mine produced 11 million tonnes of ore with a grade of 4.75 grams gold per tonne.

The 269 claims and seven mining concessions that comprise the property host several past-producing mines. The Kiena mine is fully permitted and includes a 930-metre-shaft, a 2000 tonne per day CIL mill and tailings facilities.

Significant gold resources have been located on the Wesdome and Shawkey properties (contiguous with the Kiena mine property). Wesdome has begun to develop drifts from the Kiena mine to access these two resources from underground.

Wesdome is a 51%-owned subsidiary of Western Quebec Mines (WQM-T).
