Aurizon finds more gold (May 28, 2004)

Aurizon Mines (ARZ-T) has intersected gold in two areas near the past-producing East mine, 100 km north of La Sarre, Casa Berardi area, Quebec.

Four holes were drilled to test zone 157, about 500 metres east of the East mine. The holes were widely spaced, covering a 300-by-200-metre area.

The best intersection graded 10.8 grams per tonne over 5.2 metres. This included 0.5 metre grading 37.3 grams gold per tonne and 1.2 metres grading 27.2 grams per tonne. A previously reported hole intersected 20.6 grams gold per tonne over 3 metres. One hole intersected 1.3 grams gold per tonne over 9 metres.

The zone was intersected at a downhole depth of between 415 and 437 metres.

Gold is associated with disseminated pyrite and arsenopyrite in stockwork quartz veins crosscutting basalt, south of the Casa Berardi fault.

All holes were drilled through the fault. Grades ranging from 1.1 to 5.4 grams gold per tonne over true widths of 1.2 to 16 metres were intersected at downhole depths from 550 to 986 metres.

Similar geology and gold grades have been found 1000 metres to the west of the East mine workings. The Section 140 zone, at a depth of about 800 metres, runs along the southern edge of the fault.

Highlighting this zone is an intercept grading 7.8 grams gold per tonne over a 5.3 metre true width. This includes 2.2 metres grading 11.7 grams gold per tonne.

A few of the drill holes did not intersect significant gold, but holes were widely spaced.

The East mine was in operation between 1988 and 1997, and produced 344,200 ounces of gold from 1.67 million tonnes of ore grading 6.34 grams gold per tonne.
